Turmeric - A Spice for Health

Turmeric is the root of a plant that is similar to ginger. It has a yellow/orange color. Because of its color, it is sometimes used as a coloring spice. It is most often used in curries, egg dishes and stir fry recipes.

Among the potential health benefits of this spice are:

  • Anti-inflammatory benefits
  • May help lower cholesterol
  • May decrease plaque that causes Alzheimer's disease
  • Potential to inhibit tumor cell growth

With these exciting possible health benefits, this spice is worth considering as an addition to your spice collection. While it is not a favorite flavor of mine, the health benefits are intriguing.

Consider trying it with steamed vegetables or rice. Also, add a small amount to stir fry recipes. It is typically available as a powder but also available in the root form similar to ginger.

Experiment and see if you like the taste enough to add this spice for the many advantages for your health.
