Easy Spice Storage Solutions to save money and stay organized

Spice Storage Solutions

Keep spices in airtight containers away from heat, light and moisture.

There are many ways to organize spices in your kitchen.

Quick Tip

Organize by type of use rather than necessarily alphabetizing all spices. (For example, use a few small turntables in your cabinets. One turntable could be used for baking spices. Another turntable could be used for general use spices and then maybe another small turntable for different types of pepper.) Since the turntables spin easily, they provide a good way to see your spices while keeping them in a cabinet away from heat and light.

Did you know that you can check the freshness of spices with many spice companies using a code on the bottle (if no date is on the bottle) on the company's web-site? It's also a good idea to mark the date you purchase the spice on the bottle.

Have you grown fresh herbs and have extra that you would like to store and use later?

  • You can store in plastic bags in the refrigerator for a few days.
  • Or, another quick and easy option to store herbs for later is to:

  • Freeze fresh herbs in ice cube trays filled with water.
